Congressman Calls DC Metro Long March into Mediocrity, Dysfunction

Virginia congressman Gerald Connolly tells members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about his disappointment with the state of disrepair and safety within the Washington, DC transit system. Connolly describes new Federal standards and actions by the transportation department to conduct interim oversight. Connolly that expresses frustration that metro riders face daily disruption, and all too frequent smoking incidents in tunnels that does the air riders away. Connolly says a change the culture is necessary with the actions of new general manager Paul Wiedefeld, Connolly says faces a monumental task, concluding that the Federal government must be a full funding partner, including operating subsidies.
