Galleries of Piazza della Scala in Milan

The collections of the Cariplo Foundation and Intesa Sanpaolo span an entire century of art history: the Italian nineteenth century. The path begins with a magnificent sequence of thirteen plaster bas-reliefs by Antonio Canova inspired by Homer, Virgil and Plato, and ends equally emblematically with four masterpieces by Umberto Boccioni, fundamental for understanding the decisive transition from Divisionism to Futurism. In the halls of the museum are the works of the great nineteenth-century masters such as Francesco Hayez, Francesco Filippini, Gerolamo Induno, Sebastiano De Albertis and Giuseppe Molteni. In the current collection of events and protagonists of 20th century Italian art are widely represented: from the four masterpieces of Boccioni to the works of Balla, Carrà, de Chirico, Funi, Mafai, Sironi, Rosai, Spadini, Tosi, Zanini up to the most conspicuous part that covers almost all the trends proposed in Italian art of the second half of the twentieth century.
