Dundee City of Culture Bid - Interview B

The Scottish City of Dundee has made its final bid for the coveted award of UK City of Culture for 2017. The pitch was made in the Ulster city of Londonderry today, (November 14th) where Dundee faces stiff competition from three other contenders. If it wins, Dundee has planned a full programme of cultural events. Stewart Murdoch, Managing Director, Leisure & Culture Dundee talks about the bid. TRANSCRIPT: When we asked ourselves the question, why should Dundee be the UK City of Culture, it is because it has a story to tell. There are 50 other cities in the UK which are the same size as this place. And a lot of them share the same kind of post industrial history that Dundee has. But I think very few, if any, have been as creative in the way that they have nurtured culture. And the combination of the city reinventing itself from the inside out with great cultural and digital strengths is pretty unique and pretty special.
