Animation of a cell undergoing mitosis (nuclear division). During mitosis two daughter nuclei are formed from one parent nucleus. Each daughter nucleus contains a copy of the parent's genetic material. Once the nuclei have divided and reformed, the cell itself divides in a process called cytokinesis. Mitotic cell division is the process by which eukaryotic organisms grow and repair tissues.
