General Election 2010: hung parliament: fifth day talks; Evan Harris (Former Lib Dem MP) LIVE interview SOT - The talks with Labour weren't secret / may be a better offer with a Labour - Lib Dem deal / may be possible for Lib Dems to get more in terms of political reform from the Conservatives / don't think Nick Clegg is doing anything devious, he's trying in the interests of the country, we're likely to be criticised whatever we do / British people did not want an outright Conservative, Labour or Liberal Democrat government - they want to see people negotiate and talk / if the Lib Dems do a deal with the Conservatives it will be for two reasons, firstly because they'll be biting their lip in a certain sense, there is clearly more values and policy alliance with much of the Labour party than there is with the Conservative party, firstly for stability, the numbers do add up, and secondly because there wasn't really a stable, positive alternative from the Labour party / Labour just offering their manifesto and dodgy numbers, that's not something in the interests of the country Nick Clegg could take
