Pro Athlete Johnny Damon Joins Effort To Create A Dolphin Sanctuary In Southern Florida

KEY LARGO, FLORIDA - MARCH 8: Dr. Jo Fava and Joe Fava of Animal Necessity, and baseball player Johnny Damon and his children, and Brett Raymer from Animal Planet television series Tanked, and Hunter Kinney of DMPPR.org, and retired football player Mike Dempsy, interact with dolphins and learn about marine mammal conservation, at Dolphins Plus Marine Mammal Responder (DPMMR.org). DPMMR.org is a non-for-profit group that holds the only federal permit to rescue and rehabilitate stranded marine animals that turn up within the 10,000 square miles of territory between Key West and Miami. Currently there is no place in South Florida to rehab these animals, and the group is working to raise funds to purchase a waterfront property in Key Largo that will be transformed into a rehabilitation center and marine mammal teaching hospital. Critical to marine conservation, South Florida lacks a long term rehabilitation facility, and wild dolphins are dying as a result. The group is looking to raise two and half million dollars to acquire the property. For more information visit AnimalNecessity.com (Footage by Bobby Garcia/Animal Necessity LLC)
