Built circa 1530 near the Cher and the Loire on the ruins of the fortress of Colombiers, Villandry, the last of the great castles of the Loire, already foreshadows classicism. Repurchased by Joachim Carvallo, a Spanish physician, Villandry is internationally known today for its vegetable gardens, proof that there is an alternative to the French garden and the English park.
