View of Edith Beale and Her Daughter in Their Mansion of Squalor

(Original Caption) Because repairs are being made to the crumbling, 28 room mansion inhabited by the Aunt, Mrs. Edith Beale, 76, and cousin, Mrs. Edith Beale, Jr., 54, of Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the deadline for their eviction will probably be extended. Last October, the New York State Health Department ordered the Beales evicted from the house by August 2, saying that inspectors had found it to be :indescribably filthy" and a "health hazard to occupants." The Beales, who have lived in the house since 1923, fought the eviction order and sources stated that Mrs. Onassis and her sister, Princess Lee Radziwll, the latter reported to be aiding in the clean up are paying the bills for their relatives.
