Illustration of a T cell receptor in a cell membrane. T lymphocytes, or T cells, are a type of white blood cell and components of the body's immune system. Receptors on their surface recognise and bind to a specific site (antigen) on the surface of pathogens or foreign objects. Binding initiates a signal cascade in the T cell that activates an immune response.
