The average number of people to visit Meiji Shrine during the first three days of New Year is said to be 3.16 million, No 1 spot in the whole Japan Meiji Jingu Shrine, a Shinto shrine, was established in 1920 and dedicated to Emperor Meiji (1852-1914) and his consort Empress Shoken (1850-1914); the great grandparents of the current Emperor Akihito. (Their tombs are located in Fushimi, Kyoto.)
