DC-3 Plane Wreck, Sólheimasandur (Solheimasandur) beach, Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland (Suðurland). The wreck of the Douglas DC-3 plane is a popular tourist attraction in South Iceland. It is located in a remote location, on Sólheimasandur (Solheimasandur), a large desert black sand area close to Vik. The accident happened on November 21, 1973 when a Douglas R4D-8 of the United States Navy made an emergency landing. All passengers survived, but the DC-3 plane wreck remained on the beach.
