Spring's ‘weeping bride’: A blooming tale of rare reverse tulips in Türkiye

These tulips, adorned in vibrant shades of orange, red, and yellow, have illuminated the landscape with their beauty. The region, rich in history and culture, boasts a growing population of these unique flowers. Locals affectionately refer to them as "the weeping bride," a name steeped in tradition and folklore, symbolizing brides separated from their beloveds. In Christianity, the tulips are also associated with the tears of the Virgin Mary and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. While this high-altitude garden has been a favorite spot for photographers in previous years, attracting tourists from far and wide. Endemic to the mountainous regions of Siirt, Hakkari, Tunceli, and Adiyaman in Anatolia, the reverse tulip is dubbed by natives as a sacred flower. With stems reaching approximately 75 cm, these flowers boast downward-facing bell-shaped blooms, topped by a crown of delicate leaves. Typically, wild varieties of the flower display hues of orange or red.
