‘Stop Killing our Transgender Women’ - NYC

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 28, 2019: In light of World Gay Pride Month transgender women and gender non-conforming (nonconforming) rallied in Washington Square Park in the West Village to protest the recent death of Transgender Women in 2019 in various States of the US. The recent death of a transgender woman, Roxsana Hernández Rodriguez (also spelled Roxana), 33, has been highlighted by the transgender community. She was a transgender woman from Honduras who died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody nine days after being transferred to a dedicated unit for transgender women at the Cibola County Correctional Center in New Mexico. The center is operated under contract by CoreCivic, the second-largest private prison company in the United States. According to an article in the NY Times on November 27, 2018 Rodriguez "appeared to have been physically abused before her death in May from dehydration, along with complications from H.I.V., according to an independent autopsy released this week."
