Carriage on Snowy Rubble-Strewn Street

(Original Caption) 2/12/1947-Warsaw, Poland- One of the most badly damaged cities in the world, Warsaw is now in the throes of a severe winter. Huge piles of rubble lie everywhere though a little reconstruction work is going on. While those persons with money find life fairly comfortable--even luxurious--living conditions for the poor are miserable. One room with a dirt floor serves as a home for an entire family, most on the verge of starvation. One American photographer who tried to take pictures of these children was arrested. A lone carriage makes its solitary way down a snow-covered street between relics of remaining buildings. Snow also covers piles of rubble.
