FUNAFUTI, TUVALU - 10 MAY 2025: Satellite view of Funafuti, Tuvalu shows one of the most climate-threatened places on Earth. This low-lying island faces rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and freshwater shortages, with tidal flooding now common during high tides. Most of Funafuti sits barely a meter above sea level, and by 2050, much of it may be submerged. In 2024, Tuvalu and Australia signed the Falepili Union, the world's first climate migration treaty, allowing Tuvaluans to relocate to Australia as conditions worsen.
