USA - Medicine - i-Limb

Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Juan Arredondo, a veteran of the war in Iraq, wears the world's first bionic hand known as i-Limb, during a demonstration at Hanger Orthopedic group in New York City. Arredondo lost his hand following an IED explosion in Iraq and is now able to use the i-Limb which has finger 'joints' that act like natural fingers. The i-Limb utilizes electrical signals generated by the muscles in the remaining portion of the patient?s limb. This signal is picked up by electrodes in the device, which sit on the surface of the skin. (Photo by Ramin Talaie/Corbis via Getty Images)
