AUG 4 1951, AUG 5 1951; A petition signed by more than 4,000 citizens of Pueblo, received by Governor Thornton, requests that the functions of the state government be moved to that city for the state fair, Aug. 19 to 24. The fair will hold a pageant depicting the progress of Colorado since it achieved statehood seventy-five years ago. Thornton (center) said he would "take it under advisement." Holding the petition are, top, left, Mayor William Warner of Pueblo; and Dick Pemberton (right), president of the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. Lower left is Peter Hughes, chairman of Pueblo county commissioners; and right is Mark Watrous, state highway engineer and former Pueblo resident. The photo was made on the state capitol steps.; (Photo By Ira Gay Sealy/The Denver Post via Getty Images)
