Cloneaid Announces Birth Of First Cloned Baby

HOLLYWOOD, FL - DECEMBER 27: Michael Guillen (R), a freelance journalist formally of ABC News, speaks to reporters after a news conference announcing the birth of the first cloned baby December 27, 2002 in Hollywood, Florida. Guillen told reporters that he was lining up independent experts to perform DNA testing on the mother and the baby. He said that he was not being paid by Cloneaid. Dr. Brigitte Boisselier, CEO of Clonaid, founded by the Raelian movement in 1997, announced the birth of the first cloned baby, a girl named "Eve" born December 26, 2002 in an undisclosed location by C-section. Boisselier claimed that the baby girl was born healthy at seven pounds and was cloned from the skin cell of the mother. Clonaid is also looking forward to another birth in Europe sometime next week and three more early next year. Clonaid refers to itself as the "first human cloning company" and was founded by the Raelians who believe that life on Earth was created by extraterrestrials through genetic engineering. None of the parental candidates were Raelians. (Photo by Eliot J. Schechter/Getty Images)
