CWA Workers Marching to White House

(Original Caption) Led by Norman Thomas, nationally famous Socialist leader and Presidential candidate in 1925 and 1932, some 500 CWA workers from the metropolitan district of New York, came to Washington today to file protests with the President and with Harry L. Hopkins, director of the National Emergency Relief Organization, against discontinuance of the CWA work relief. At the White House they were met by the President's secretary, Marvin H. McIntyre, who promised to submit their plea to the President. Their leaders were received by Mr. Hopkins, who expressed sympathy with their demand for jobs, rather than relief. The photo shows the protesting delegation marching here, en route for the White House and CWA headquarters.
