Police found January 2, 2012 the body of an Iraq war veteran who is believed to have shot dead a ranger in Mount Rainier National Park, saying it appeared he died of exposure after fleeing into the forest. A massive manhunt had been underway for 24-year-old Benjamin Colton Barnes, who suffered from stress disorder, a day after the New Year's Day shooting in the snow-covered park in the US state of Washington. His body was found in a river called Paradise Creek, wearing only a T-shirt, jeans, and one shoe -- and there appeared to be no external wounds, meaning he likely died from exposure or similar, officials told reporters at the park. "The body found was confirmed to be the shooting suspect Benjamin C. Barnes," Washington state Patrol District spokesman Guy Gill said on his Twitter account.
