All-Women Lifeguard Tournament

Hundreds of women from across the Northeast flocked to Sandy Hook Unit in Highlands, N.J., Wednesday to dive into the physically demanding National Park Service competition. The tournament, held every July, features ten events - both on land and in water - and gives female guards the chance to flaunt the skill and strength needed to earn a spot in the lifeguard tower. Competitors, who form teams based on region, can participate in any numbers of events, which range from the ocean-kayak challenge to the surf rescue competition.
