Gurkha soldiers in the 2024 recruit intake receive gifts of scarves from senior personnel following their Pass Out Parade at the end of their infantry training at Helles Barracks in Catterick, northern England on November 8, 2024. All Gurkhas are recruited from Nepal, with thousands of young applicants attempting selection each year for only a few hundred job opportunities. Following 37 weeks intensive training at the Infantry Training Centre in Catterick 337 Gurkhas will be enlisted from the 2024 intake. The Gurkhas have fought for the British since 1815 and there are currently over 4000 Gurkhas employed in the Brigade of Gurkhas across many trades.
