Ben Hogan Teeing Off

(Original Caption) Bantam Ben Hogan, of Hershey, PA, tees off from the first green at the Riviera Country Club at the 14th Los Angeles Open Golf tournament, his first appearance in competition since his near-fatal accident last February. The little Texan had par whipped with a 34 for the first nine holes, but he tired on the final nine for a creditable 73, two shots over par and five shots behind the pace setter. The leader was Ed Furgol, of Royal Oaks, Michigan, with a three-under-par 68.
