The patios of Marina City in Chicago. Marina City, a Chicago landmark, is a mixed-use residential and commercial building complex on State Street in Chicago, Illinois. Sitting on the north bank of the Chicago River in downtown Chicago, he complex consists of two corncob-shaped towers. Each tower is 65 stories tall (587 feet/179 meters). Beneath a platform, which raises the towers off of the ground, at river level, is a small marina for pleasure craft, supposedly giving the structures their name. Marina City was designed by architect Bertrand Goldberg, was completed in 1964, and it was the first building in the United States to be constructed with tower cranes. Image taken in 2013.
