A striped bark scorpion (Centruroides vittatus) glows an eerie green-blue beneath ultraviolet light as it rests on the weathered skull of a white-tailed deer. Common throughout the southern United States, especially in arid and semi-arid habitats, this species is nocturnal and often hides under bark, rocks, or leaf litter by day.
