The Golden-green Woodpecker is a bird of the order Piciformes of the Picidae family. Currently, the Piculus chrysochloros complex comprises nine subspecies that are difficult to distinguish. What is known is that the individual variation is very large, and that this species lives in the most varied ecoregions, inhabiting humid forests, cerrado and caatinga. In general, Piculus chrysochloros feeds on termites and larvae that live in galleries in the bark of trees. Such woodpeckers have an extensive, serrated tongue and well adapted to sounding habits. It occurs in northeastern Brazil north of Minas Gerais in caatinga and cerrado areas, it also has a separate population in the Pantanal in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, which extends into Bolivia and Paraguay.
