Copyright has expired on this artwork. From my own archives, digitally restored. Piraeus, port city in the region of Attica, Greece. The walls, about 6 km in length, were initially constructed in the mid 5th century BCE, and provided a secure connection to the sea even during times of siege. They were destroyed by the Spartans in 403 BC.
