The Blauwbrug (Blue bridge in english) is an historic bridge in Amsterdam, over the river Amstel. The bridge owes its name to a wooden "blue bridge" that was there from around 1600 but no longer exists and which was painted the characteristic blue of the Dutch flag. As you can see on these images the current version features tall, ornate street lamps topped by the imperial crown of Amsterdam, fish sculptures and foundations shaped like the prow of a medieval ship. The bridge offers great views of the Amstel river.
