Syrian Refugees Face Uncertain Future In Turkey

For many Syrian refugees, living in Turkey has become their only option. With the new E.U.-Turkey deal effectively shutting down the route to Europe and the war continuing in Syria, many refugees have become stranded and are now looking to make a permanent life in Turkey. However life is difficult, with limited access to healthcare, education and without stable housing, many are forced to squat on empty land or unused buildings, living in tents or makeshift structures and under the constant threat of being moved on by police or relocated to one of the 25 official camps elsewhere in the country. Although many have been given restricted work permits allowing them to work various labour jobs, the long hours and minimal pay only provide enough money for basic needs such as food, water and electricity but not enough to afford rent.
