A South African hard hat known as 'Makar

A South African hard hat known as 'Makarapas' made for the Nigerian football team and its supporters is pictured in Johannesburg on March 24, 2010. The 'Makarapas', a decorated plastic hard hat, are created by carving shapes into construction hats and painting them in team colours, a process that can take four days to complete. As the world prepares for Africa's first World Cup, interest in the hats is growing in the continent. South African architect Paul Wygers, who designed the machine to create the cut outs in the hard hats, has received an order from football governing body FIFA for 2,000 Makarapas for the twelve of the top teams.
