A Palestinian Greek Orthodox worshipper

TULKAREM, -: A Palestinian Greek Orthodox worshipper rescues items form his badly damaged church in the northern West Bank town of Tulkarem 17 September 2006. The oldest icon in the church dates from 1905. Unknown assailants threw Molotov cocktails and a burning tire at two churches in the northern West Bank today -- the third day of attacks directed at the Christian church, Palestinian security officials said. No one was hurt in the attacks, in which churches in the towns of Tulkarem and Tubas were damaged, they said. The attacks followed last week's remarks by Pope Benedict XVI that linked Islam to violence. Other churches in the northern West Bank are being protected by Islamic militant groups or by Palestinian security forces.
